11Working Time Regulations/Holiday PayHealth and SafetyThe principle provisions for the WorkingTime Regulations 1998 are:Average weekly working time islimited to 48 hoursThis is averaged over 17 weeks anddoes not include breaks or lunchhours.You may opt out if you wish, bysigning an agreement.Minimum rest periodsThe requirement is to have at least 11consecutive hours rest between shiftsevery 24 hours and a minimum of oneday off a week. When you work morethan 6 hours a day you are entitled to arest break of 20 minutes minimum.Paid annual leaveLifeline’s annual leave runs from 1stOctober to 31st September. Temporaryworkers are entitled to 28 days paidannual leave in any leave year. Holidayis accrued on time worked, calculatedas an average of your basic hours andrates over the preceding twelve weekperiod.You are not entitled to more paidholiday than you have accrued.Holiday pay cannot be substituted – it isonly paid for time taken off.All holiday must be taken within theyear as it cannot be rolled over.Please complete a Holiday RequestForm (also available on our web sitewww.lifeline-personnel.com) andinform us and our client as soon as youare aware that you require or will betaking holiday. Holiday Pay is paid inarrears ie the week after holiday istaken.You have a statutory duty to observehealth and safety regulations andpromote health and safety at work foryourself and your colleagues:• Request a copy of the clientorganisation’s health and safety policyand follow the instructions• Be aware of potential hazards – reportdangerous situations to the managerimmediately• Do not try to do jobs for which youare not qualified, so if you are notsure about a procedure, speak to themanager• Never play practical jokes, theconsequences can be serious• Be aware of procedures, withdangerous materials, such as sharps• Be aware of safety procedures,including fire evacuation
